Lessons from Amy

Well, I don't even remember counting to ten but there were lots of great lessons in Amy's book "10 Lessons from a Former Fat Girl". I really enjoyed this book. Great follow up to the Made to Crave book I just finished.
First I was kind of interested to find out more of what life was like on "the ranch", but she really only talked about it occasionally. I quickly forgot about that as I dove into the meat of the book.
One of the first things that really caught my attention was an analogy she created. She talked about the relationship many girls have when they date "the bad boy"-- he cheats, he's emotionally unavailable, and abusive, but girls stay because they think that is the type of guy they deserve or they just fear being alone. She compared this to bad food or bad eating habits that we often invite into our lives, often because we do not think we deserve better or we are afraid of being alone. She says. "The odd thing is that an unhealthy relationship with food can be worse than one of those relationships with the bad boy.....Food cannot hurt you emotionally but it can hurt you physically and keep you from fulfilling your dreams."

Another point I liked was the mistake of thinking that the weight is just not a big deal to God. "Why would God care about helping me with weight?" She earlier quoted 1st Corinthians where Paul tells us that our weapons are not weapons of the world but we .... take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.
Fighting food temptations is still a big deal to God. He wants us to be in control of our bodies, our thoughts, our minds. And he will give us the power to do it. The battlefield is in our minds and we can win!

Good stuff, huh?!!

She spend a lot of time on the concept that we are way more successful in this journey (and keeping the weight off) if we find ways to turn our lives toward the love and care of others. She gives TONS of ideas of fun ways to do this, as well as motivation.

She shares stories of her failures as well as her successes. She is open and honest.

I really liked then things she shared in the latter part of the book about how to change mentally to the "fit girl" rather than the "Fat girl". Our minds have to catch up with our bodies as the weight comes off. I could really relate to several things she shared and was so glad to hear some warnings of what to expect in this journey!

So if you are looking for another inspirational book.... I totally suggest this one!
